On Ways of Seeing & Being Present

Photography is one of the ways I make sense of the world. It gives me a reason to look more closely, to enter places I might otherwise pass by, and to stay with a moment or a person a little longer.

Sometimes I approach a subject openly, allowing the camera to observe what is already there. At other times, I direct the situation, shaping the relationship between people, place and image. And sometimes I construct the image more deliberately, using the frame almost as a canvas.

What interests me is the movement between these different ways of making: between finding and creating, observing and intervening. In each, attention can reveal something — a gesture, a relationship, an atmosphere, or something ordinary that suddenly begins to hold more than expected.

My work moves between portraiture, documentary observation, commissioned work and personal exploration. Across these different contexts, I return to people, places and the relationships that form between them.

Photography is a way of being present long enough for something to emerge.
